Summer in Year 1
Our topic is 'On our doorstep'. Download our Long Term and Half Term Plans below to find out what we will be learning.
In English, we will be writing sentences using capital letters, spaces between words and full stops. We will be using question marks and exclamation marks. We will write pieces of non - fiction, fiction and poetry.
In Phonics, we will be learning to read and spell words containing Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 5 phonemes and tricky words. Flash cards of these can be downloaded below.
In Maths, we will be counting forwards and backwards from 0 - 50. We will also add and subtract numbers. We will count in steps of 2, 5 and 10. We will explore the features and properties of 2D and 3D shapes.
In Science, we will be learning about plants.
In Geography, we will be learning about maps.
In RE, we will be learning about Christianity.
In PE, we will be mastering key skills such as running.
Winnington Park Value
This half term's value is kindness.
This term's No Outsiders book is 'Max the Champion'. We will be learning how people's bodies work differently.
Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education
We will be thinking about being relationships during our PSHE lessons.
We will be thinking about our British Values.
Our British Values are; democracy, rule of law, tolerance of others, mutual respect and individual liberty.
This term's Personal Best is concentration - thinking me.
PE will be on Monday and Wednesday. Children must come to school in their PE clothes. PE kit: dark shorts or joggers, a white t-shirt or school polo shirt, their school jumper or cardigan and dark trainers or pumps. On Thursdays we will take part in football sessions on the field. Please bring a spare pair of trainers in a reusable bag.
Spellings test will be on a Friday. Please learn the spellings sent home. They can be downloaded below.
Bug Club is now ready for all children. Please read frequently at home. This will be monitored at school and new books added. Children will read at school in Guided Read sessions and one to one with an adult.
Please bring a reusable water bottle to school every day. Children can access this throughout the day. Children are provided with a piece of fruit for snack at break time or they can bring a healthy snack into school. Children do not need any money.
