Our Governing Body Profiles
Jem Davies - Chair of Governos
Chris Story
I’ve been a governor at Winnington Park Primary School and Nursery for over 10 years and also work with school through Vale Royal School Sport Partnership. I’ve seen the school change hugely in my time as a governor – doubling the number of children able to attend Winnington Park, adding a fabulous new building, benefitting from the leadership of 3 fantastic head teachers to name a few – but I’ve been proud throughout that the governors have worked hard to ensure that children’s engagement remain at the centre of these developments. My background in teaching and education leadership helps me recognise the successes of the school while challenging the school leaders to sustain improvement. I enjoy being outside - walking, running and cycling my way around our area and beyond!
Mark Nixon
I live in Winnington with my wife and son. I have worked in Children’s Services for the Local Education Authority for over 16 years in the area of Special Educational Needs. I am interested in all sports and like spending as much time as possible with my family and son Harry – who we hope to be able to send to this school once he’s old enough!
Being a Governor gives you the knowledge that you have played a part in improving children’s education, a chance to develop new skills and to practise existing ones, witness the hard work and dedication of our school staff and see children enjoying their lessons.
Hannah Cundale - Vice Chair
I am an experienced Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist and have worked in the local area for 18 years. I became a parent governor for Winnington Park Primary and Nursery School in November 2020, when my eldest daughter was in Year 1. My youngest daughter now also attends the nursery, and they are both thriving in this school. I am currently link governor for Design Technology, Computing and Modern Foreign Languages and am part of the Curriculum and Full Governing Body. As part of succession planning, I am also sharing the role of Early Years link governor.
I feel my experience and skills enable me to be able to particularly support and challenge in the areas of; parental involvement, communication strategy, Early Years development, supporting of pupils with SEND and Equality and Diversity. Being a parent governor is a particular honour and I strive to fulfil the role with enthusiasm and passion and with a commitment to ensuring a high-quality education for all our children.

I have had the honour to work at Winnington Park Primary School and Nursery as a teacher since 2016 and it is evident that the school mirrors my own personal philosophy of education. I have gained valuable teaching and leadership experience in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I am an enthusiastic and caring professional with a strong commitment to teaching, learning and leadership. I am the Deputy Headteacher, with a vast experience of leading areas across the curriculum, such as: Mathematics, English and Behaviour as well as being the SENDCo for 5 years. I feel that I am an approachable member of staff and believe I have a strong rapport with everyone in our school community.
Leah Davenport
Hello everyone. I am new to the Governing body this year. I have been a teacher for 8 years and teach Religious Studies at a local high school.
In addition to my teaching role, I have served as a Head of Year for the past five years, ensuring the well-being and academic progress of students. This experience has reinforced my deep commitment to the pastoral provision and the holistic development of young minds.
I have recently moved to Winnington with my husband and am genuinely excited to become a part of this wonderful community and contribute towards the growth and development of our school. With my background in education, my leadership skills, and my passion for fostering a nurturing environment, I am eager to collaborate with the staff, students, and parents to drive positive change and provide the best educational experience possible.
